Contracts Director, Asia Pacific - Singapore - PQE 10-10+yrs

Description

Head the Contracts Department in Asia-Pacific: Provide support to 2 separate business divisions in technology distribution with presence in 12 countries and combined annual sales revenue of more than US$3.5B.

Reports to: VP and Regional General Counsel, Asia-Pacific.
Responsibilities

Review of Complex Contracts: Develop, draft, revise, analyze and negotiate complex or customized commercial contracts with suppliers, customers and partners.

Oversee Contracts Function: Manage a team of contract managers and work with external lawyers where necessary in reviewing and negotiating standard and non-standard commercial contracts with customers, suppliers and partners. Ensure full and efficient utilization of resources to discharge the responsibilities and authorizations of the contracts function. Be an escalation point to resolve issues, concerns and problems outside the scope of the team’s designated authority.

People Management: Provide professional development for team members, including providing training in technical skills, coaching, managing performance and career planning.

Risk Management: Identify, assess and propose solutions to manage the risks associated with individual contracts and the way business is conducted in general. Works with a variety of business leaders/representatives, division counsel and subject matter experts to review and approve deviations beyond own designated authority.

Policy Development and Implementation: Identify improvement opportunities in existing contract management structure, contract templates and contract review policies and risk approval matrices. Ensure compliance with established internal polices for the review, execution, and record-keeping of contracts.

Education and Training: Provide guidance and advice to the sales and marketing organizations and liaise with other corporate functions, as to company preferential contractual terms. Identify commercial, operational and legal risks and advises how to resolve, mitigate or manage those risks. Direct planning and participation in training of contract practices and negotiations to sales and marketing organizations.
Requirements

Qualification: Degree in Law.

Experience: At least 10 years experience/background in managing commercial contracts in a sales organization. Industry experience in electronics and/or distribution highly desired.

Language ability: Spoken and written English and Chinese.

Skill Requirements

Commercial Law: In depth understanding of business law, contract law, laws and regulations with respect to the sale of goods and related legal concepts, such as export compliance and intellectual property in a cross-jurisdictional context, including practical application in a business environment.

Negotiation Skills: Advanced level negotiation competency.

People Management: Proven track record in managing a team effectively in high-pressure, tight-deadline situations.

Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills (including presentation skills) and excellent interpersonal skills within a multinational organization and multicultural environment.

Customer Service and Teamwork: Strong commitment to customer service and ability to work well in a team oriented environment.
